Recommendations!
There are a lot of stations to choose from on the market but take it from us, you don't have to get a higher priced one to get a good one. There is no difference in the weather data between higher priced and lower priced units. The difference is mainly
in the update times. The station that we currently use is a lower priced WMR-100
unit from Oregon Scientific. It updates data every 14 seconds as opposed to the higher priced units with update times of 2.5 seconds. That means that every 14 seconds we get updated wind, temp, humidity, baro and rain information. Thats actually plenty quick for the average user.
La-Crosse makes lower priced stations but their update times are a little longer than any of the other brands (from 1 to 2 min). The more recent La-Crosse station models have gotten a little faster. If you look hard enough and research each model, you can now find some of the newer La-Crosse station's with update times as fast as every 17 seconds. That's actually pretty good.
I must tell you, every La-Crosse station that we have owned in the past has not lasted very long. Out of the three La-Crosse stations not one made it a full year.
We Recommend Oregon Scientific!
Oregon Scientific stations are very good for the price. We have had no problems with our WMR-100 by Oregon Scientific for over 4 years running.
What About Davis (Vantage) Stations?
Wow, if price is of no concern and you simply want the best, then by all means
buy a Davis station.
As far as computer software, we use and recommend Virtual Weather Station by Ambient Weather. It works perfectly with our weather station.
